Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgery procedure in which silicone or saline breast implants are inserted into the breasts to increase their size and enhance shape. From a surgeon’s point of view, it should ultimately be tailored to meet each patient’s individual needs.

Breast implants often come up when people talk about their desire for fuller bosoms; however, they also serve medical purposes like correcting obvious differences between two different-sized breasts, whether due to weight fluctuations during pregnancy or just genetic predisposition to create more balanced proportions.

Breast augmentation surgery is a relatively quick procedure. It takes about one to two hours, but the time varies depending on individual needs. General anesthesia keeps you from feeling any discomfort as your body undergoes this transition in appearance.

After the procedure is done, patients may feel sore for the first week or so, and you will need to limit high-intensity exercise for about 2-4 weeks.

It is also important that patients wear a supportive or sports bra for at least two weeks after surgery, even while sleeping.

It is crucial to follow the doctor’s instructions to ensure healing optimally.

Breast implants are still adjusting after the surgery that moved them beneath the pectoral muscle in order to provide a natural look. At first glance, it may seem like they sit high up on the chest because they have yet to fully recover from the procedure. But there is nothing to worry about, as the implants will sink down over the next few weeks as they heal and adjust, settling right where they should be.

For most people, the nerves in their nipples are not affected by breast augmentation surgery. If you have a nerve-sparing incision performed during your operation near this area of sensitivity, it is likely that sensation will return and normalize after some time following the procedure.
